August ‘19

Dear Student,

This year’s Leaving Certificate exam results will be issued on Tuesday August 13th.  You can collect your results from school from 9:00 am until 12:00 midday.  Your results will also be available on the State Examinations Commission website ( from 12 noon.  You will need your exam number and PIN number to access your results online.  Remember also to register with the Candidate Self Service Portal 2019 on in order to access the appeals service.

The Round 1 CAO offers are issued on August 15th.  They will be available from 2 pm online and will also be issued by post and text.  It is important that you review the offers and acceptance procedures which are available on the CAO website (please find the link below). It is essential you meet all CAO deadlines.  Remember that there is no way of knowing the points required for specific courses until the offers are made.  Therefore try not to torture yourself by trying to predict points based on previous years as you await the CAO offers.

The day of the results is a day of much emotion for you and your family.  We wish you every success and hope that the early morning nerves will be replaced by relief and happiness. It is however important to also acknowledge that for some of you there may be disappointment.  We hope that you remember that you cannot be measured or quantified in terms of results or points.  Your value is immeasurable. Remember too that there are a vast amount of options and pathways available to you and it is important that you take the time to think about your situation and what choices will best help you get where you would like to go.  There is an Exam Results helpline which is manned by Guidance Counsellors and will open from 10 am each day from Tuesday 13th August to Tuesday 20nd August.   The number is 1800 265 165.  I am available in school throughout the morning of the results and am also available via my school email

Take good care of yourself and each other on the day of the results and over the following days.  It can be challenging to be there for each other and still give each other space but you have proved throughout your time in school your ability to be kind, caring and considerate of each other.  If you need help, ask for it.  It is not a time for silent bravery.

Finally, you, and the people who support you at home, have put in a huge amount of work and effort to get to this day.  Regardless of what the results bring and what decisions you make, you are taking a step forward on your own personal journey which is as unique and individual as you are.   We hope you step forward with courage and hope, that you embrace the opportunities and challenges that await you and that you always ask for and avail of the help and support you need,

With Best Wishes,

Rachel McDonnell
